Fonterra reports higher emissions from NZ than Australian dairy

Fonterra’s New Zealand-based dairy farmers release 20 percent more greenhouse gas emissions per kilo of milk they produce than their Australian counterparts, according to the cooperative’s annual sustainability report.
Released in September, the document shows every kilogram of fat- and protein-corrected milk produced by Fonterra’s New Zealand suppliers is associated with 1.05 kilograms of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions, compared with just 0.88 kilos of emissions from the coop’s Australian farmers.
